Just when we think we're getting close, the ice stops being so flat. My legs are dead beat because we've essentially been walking on concrete with heavy packs for 8 hours. It was a little bit slippery, but not too bad. No, we didn't have crampons. The crevasses got to be a bit more of a pain here for a while, and we had to work our way off to one side pretty far to get around them.
