a three hour tour...

Captain Mike provided our "water taxi" trip to the part of the Sound where we were going to kayak. It's pretty far out there, and in fact, should have been about a three hour tour (cue in music here...). Luckily, these boats have two engines or we would have really been stuck when the water pump went out on one of them; as it was, we just had to throttle down to 6 knots instead of 25 or so. Needless to say, it took quite a while to get there. He dropped us off at our pickup point at 6 or 7pm (because it was further to our original dropoff point), which meant we had to do the trip backwards, which turned out to be somewhat unfortunate. We'd planned on being able to basecamp for the first few days near the glacier and burn through some of our food; more unfortunate was the fact that we had to paddle into the winds off the glacier instead of with them. Sigh.
