The port of Valdez itself is actually tucked away in a sheltered position quite far from the main part of the Sound.

There are spectacular waterfalls here, as there were in Whittier. They really make the mountains look like they make a straight vertical rise from the water!

Valdez gets a lot of snow, despite being the northernmost ice-free port. The fire hydrants have little signs above them that depict... fire hydrants. I assume this is so they can be found in all the snow, or so the snowplows don't plow them or something.
