columbia glacier

Columbia Glacier is reputedly very impressive, but this is the most we saw of it (okay, it's still impressive). It's huge and calves off massive quantities of ice... which is why we didn't get any closer. There's so much ice that there's truly no way through the ice, and it's clogged up so far out that you can't even see the glacier from where you stop moving forward. It wasn't until we were a little farther away that you could get a good view. I think he said that the last time there was a good path through the ice was over a decade ago...
